My precious Seahawks are currently 2-2, lost in a 3-way tie for the top of the NFC west. It’s a weak division and always has been, but I don’t see my team of choice rising above much of anything this year. The 49s have proven to be terrible – that victory was in the bag before it started. The week before last they beat the Chargers, a fairly solid team, but only because Leon Washington returned two kicks from Touchdowns. The offense didn’t look great, the defense wasn’t amazing, but apparently we do alright on special teams…sometimes. They lost to the Rams in week 4 and the Broncos in week 2. Neither game was close.
Now we’re going into the bye week season and I’m not optimistic. If they can’t beat Arizona in week 7 than I doubt they’ll even have a shot at the division let alone some sort of extended post-season success. Normally the Seahawks have a lot of injuries – I can always tell myself that if everyone was healthy there would be some competition. Not as such this year. Mostly healthy team – they’re just not very good. This plan to bring Marshawn Lynch in as running back…pssht. He might be better than Julius Jones (who wasn’t?) but he’s not going to do any better than Forsett. Until there’s a younger quarterback (and a good one) and a line that can actually stay in a line I will have nothing to watch…
At least my fantasy team is doing well… I’m currently 3-1. As usual I lost the first week, but unlike the last three seasons I didn’t lose the first four. I have this game where I lose at the beginning and then play catchup the rest of the season. Inevitably I miss the playoff cut by a single game. It makes for a very exciting, infinitely disappointing fantasy tradition. Having survived the first bye week that might have shredded my team, I’m facing the current #1 team in week 5…and I’m actually predicted to beat him at the moment. Is the curse broken? More on that next week.
And now I’m off to work – a meeting with a Xerox salesmen today. Enthralling stuff I know…
