Put a Title Here

on November 18, 2010 in Uncategorized

Last week I ran through a rough outline of news – writing, work, Creekside, MBA, nothingness.  Following a similar itinerary (I’m phoning this week, you see) – I received my first rejection letter for the story I just finished.  The rejection isn’t massively surprising although the two day turnaround was unexpectedly fast.  I’d like to think they were just being efficient.  On my end, I got it sent back out in less than hour – this time to a publication guaranteed to wait at least three weeks before putting out their form letter rejection.

Because I’m a glutton for harried evenings, I started a novel that’s been in the outline stages for over three years now.  Twice before I’ve started writing it and not once have I managed to get more than two chapters in.  So far, I’m about half of one chapter done so at this rate I’ll collapse sometime after Thanksgiving.  All the usual pressures to quit and succeed are present in their normal degree, but I’m slightly more motivated by shame this time around – every year for the last three years I’ve finished a novel except 2010.  I blame work, school, and short stories, but it was such a good streak I had going there.  Sigh.

Work proceeds as work tends to, though the pending excitement continues to grow.   The year end promises all the fireworks and drama of your everyday staff layoff.  I’ve done my best to take notes for a future novel, but of late they’ve seemed awfully close to the plot of Band of Brothers.

School – despite all my attempts at failing I’ve managed to get through this week with nothing lower than a 110 (possibly out of 130.  It’s ambiguous).  The semester is nearing an end and there are no classes next week for the Thanksgiving break.  Accounting is the nuisance du jour – double book ledgering just doesn’t hold my attention all that well.  I recently began reading The Dogs of War by Frederick Forsyth (of Day of the Jackal fame), which  seems like such a better use of my time…

Lastly, to complete the template I constructed last week, allow me to present a slice of the internet that held my attention long enough for me to remember it just now: The Esquire’s Balanced American Budget. I actual happen to agree with pretty close to everything on this list – I’d love to see a follow up on how viable any of these initiatives might be.  Given that the biggest cut is to military spending my guess is not bloody likely, but I guess see…

  1. I have been doing research much and after skimming trough this all I can say is “finally somebody that writes rather than obsessing #with his# blog info”. great job. You only made the internet a better place after half the bloggers only doing this to get paid for every word.
