Why even bother trying to come up with fictional settings?  Really.  It’s a complete waste of time.  For every space station or foreboding castle I could come up with, there’s already some real place that’s twice as cool.

Now if only they took on renters.

I love Mr. Pibb.  It is my ambrosia, my divine nectar, my highest aspiration in beverage choice.  For those who have never tasted from this sugar fountain of delicious, it is a spicy cherry soda similar (but better) than Dr. Pepper.  For years I have endeavored to secure myself a consistent supply of this amazing product, but it has proven to be a devilish task.  I’ve lived in Arizona, New York, and Wisconsin and not once have I managed to see Pibb for sale in a grocery store.  Soda Fountain sightings have also been disturbingly rare. Finally, I have managed to search out this elusive treasure.

So, where can Mr. Pibb be found?

First, let me break the bad news.  It can’t be found, at all, ever.  Mr. Pibb, simply put, no longer exists. See here.

Pibb Xtra, however, is still fairly prevalent within certain regions.  Within the United States the South and West seem to be the predominate distribution areas for Pibb Xtra, although sporadic locations in the north and central Atlantic seaboard report Pibb sightings.  Sadly, there are no current bottling locations near me in New York and neither Arizona nor Wisconsin showed any signs of Pibb abundance in my experience.

So, how can I acquire Pibb, that glorious libation of soda and sugar?

Going back to that sodafinder website, Pibb Xtra is for sale $20 for a 12 pack.  Is this a bit expensive for soda?  Probably, but this is a straight case of supply vs. I NEED MY MR. PIBB.

After years of searching I might finally have an regular (if still infrequent) access to Mr. Pibb, the greatest of the sodas.

In lieu of commenting on the ever-disappointment of the Seahawks, here is an article on a coke can without paint.  I dub thee shiny coke and I wish saving the world was always so aesthetically pleasing.  The brand managers at coke would flip, but that’s a sharp looking product right there.  Lazy Monday post…

Happy Birthday, Dad!  Now that you’ve read this you can scratch ‘celebrate birthday’ off the to-do list!

One of the best presentations I’ve watched ever.  Warning…it’s science.

Today a general roundup of what I’ve done lately:

Read The Plague by Albert Camus.

Excellent, of course. Perhaps less philosophical than The Stranger, (an arguable critique) but a much softer read. I don’t know how much of the work was fictional and how much was based on Camus’ actual experience with a plague-stricken town in North Africa, but it came together very much as a genuine account. There a certain subtlety to his writing, a sort of silk-thread irony, that I suppose is very french, but either way I wish I could incorporate into my own writing.

Virtualized a file server at work.

I took an existing freebsd fileserver and moved it onto a virtualized Centos 5.3 server. I’ve also begun in earnest my project to push Linux OPAC machines to outside libraries. We have the first machines installed and an overall guide created. We’re just waiting on requests for OPAC’s at the moment.

Finished the Spot Edit for my Story.

I started with 100 items, some very small, others rather expansive, that needed to be fixed or tweaked in my novel. This week I managed to tackle the last of them. For the next month I’ll be doing general read-throughs. At the end of the year I’ll decide what, if anything, I want to do with it, but I’m still somewhat happy with the work overall. It is a huge improvement on my last attempt at this although the tone and voice still tweak my ear more than I should like. I’ve got a few more stories planned for next year so I’m eager to get onto those either way.

Pre-Ordered Dragon Age: Orgins

That should be coming next week I think. I still miss Baldur’s Gate more than it’s respectable to admit.

Started Watching Season 4 of Venture Brother’s

My favorite Adult Swim show is onto Season 4. I usually miss the television episodes (Sunday at midnight), but they put them online on Monday. Best stuff ever.

41-0

I didn’t post anything after the Seahawks last week.  Hasselback was injured, Senaca Wallace was nothing special, and the rest of the team is various states of injured. The Seahawk season seemed like another disaster.

That’s still probably true, but there’s watching today’s 41-0 rout of the Jaguars felt good.  The 49ers lost; the Seahawks still have a shot at taking the division.  The team is too weak to go anywhere in the playoffs, but if they can get over their injuries, and more importantly, if Hasselbeck can stay healthy, than they can contend.  I’m staying with my ultimately prediction, first round playoff lost, but at least they can get that far,

And then what for next year?  They need to finally solidify the o-line, Hasselback only has  a few years left, and eventually they need to strengthen their defensive backs.  I’m not sure whether they should pick up a new franchise quarterback or stay with Hasselback and work on the offensive line.  Either works.  Hopefully Mora can work his magic in another offseason.

Anyways, hats off to a great Seahawks win.  Also go Yanks!

[[Free Time]]
Free times usually involves editing for a few hours, occasionally watching a movie, eating out, playing tennis, reading, or hitting up a video game for a few hours.  Writing normally involves a lengthy setup process of checking my notes, skimming my previous work, watching youtube videos for ten minutes, and then finally settling down to do things.
Sleep-

And then the process repeats.

I don’t think I’ve made any secret of the fact that I’m a pretty big Fallout fan.  It’s up there on the same list as Simcity, Sims, Baldur’s Gate, and Elder Scrolls series.  Sadly, my world has thus far remained decorated distinctly non-fallout related paraphernalia.  If these Nuka Cola machines ever go up for sale that much just change.  Then all I have to do is find some Mr. Pibb to stick in there…

Stick fast food on some fancy plates and add some presentation and you almost have something that looks edible.  I could actually go for some Tacobellini, but the McSteak & Potatoes still looks gross.
